The 'Curriculum Materials' section is the highlight of this site. Search by grade level and click on 'Interactive Activities' to get a full list of over 100 offerings. The page 'Interactive' provides lesson plans and additional components to teaching the math and science concepts on the site. The activities encourage student thinking, well beyond the more common multiple choice activities.

Description:

The Shodor Education Foundation is centered on math and science education with a focus on computational and communication technologies. This site is organized into three sections: 'Curriculum Materials', 'Faculty Development' and 'Student Enrichment.' Projects are available in each of these three sections. The Curriculum Materials and Student Enrichment are searchable by subject matter and grade level. Faculty Development provides information about an online course for teachers from the National Computational Science Institute. From the website: "The Shodor Education Foundation, Inc., is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education and research corporation dedicated to the reform and improvement of mathematics and science education by the incorporation of appropriate computational and communication technologies. Our name recalls the role of the hammer in the shodoring process of making and applying gold leaf: we work to extend valuable educational resources and opportunities as far as possible. We place a special emphasis on enabling authentic science and mathematics explorations at all educational levels, developing numerical models and simulations integrated with the curriculum, professional development and network access to support their use in learner-centered environments."

Possible uses:

Utilizing the 'Curriculum Materials' portion of this site leads to many quality online activities. Find specific interactive experiences for students to refine and practice their math and science skills. These activities can be used by an entire class, by individuals for enrichment or additional practice, or as visual models to improve understanding.
