Wired for Books
Recommendation:
The audio on this site is clear and easy to understand. Having these books in electronic format, especially the large Beatrix Potter collection, makes this a useful resource in studying an author´s works. The language component provides stories American students are familiar with to hear and learn in a second language.
Description:
Wired for Books shares many stories from Beatrix Potter along with Alice in Wonderland, The Frog Prince, A Christmas Carol, Grimm´s Fairy Tales and Just So Stories from Kipling in electronic form. The stories come in audio format and many contain illustrations from the books and text. Two slide show books are available and an interview with Fred Rogers is included.
Possible uses:
The Tale of Peter Rabbit is offered in four languages. Even without knowledge of the vocabulary, listening to these may allow students to hear the differences in the sounds of the languages. Share the books on a projector for younger children and read together. Students studying language can listen to these stories or translate a text version.
