This site focuses solely on fractions and basic operations with fractions. It provides useful visual demonstrations and interactives for students, as well as explanations of the processes. The site graphics are simple, clear and give students choices like seeing the demonstration with line graphs or circle graphs.
Description:
Visual Fractions is an online tutorial that models fractions with number lines or circles. "Fractions are better understood when seen." This site provides information and interactives in these areas of fraction work: Identify, Rename, Compare, Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Investigate and Games. Investigate includes step-by-step explanations of all the topics. These activities are free. There is a fee ($15) option to download the `Fraction Modeler“ which allows use of the program from your hard drive and allows you to keep track of student progress. Or for $12 download a fraction maker, which helps create worksheets with fractions.
Possible uses:
Teachers can use these interactive exercises in class throughout a fraction unit for students to practice their understanding of the concepts. Or put them on a projector to use as part of the lesson to give students visual aids. Teachers can use the fee options to further utilize the tools offered on the site - creating fraction worksheets and using the software from the hard drive with a student tracking system. Students can also use this site as a resource during a fraction unit to help them with homework or provide extra practice and understanding.
