Take a tour to see how they are designed. These `Virtual Field Trips´ are similar to WebQuests, yet they have tools incorporated into the work. However, these do not explore a far away place through panorama, video tour or interactive experiences. These tours focus on a content area and pull together several Internet resources into a format that students can click through to gather information. Despite the name, the TourMaker does seem to be a quality tool for collecting and organizing research found online into a format that is useable for teachers and classes. Think about what you want to students to gain , gather information or compare perspectives. The Internet is often used to find information, I encourage you to try to push your students further into critical thinking experiences.

Description:

Tramline offers several `Virtual Field Trips´ and TourMaker software for teachers and students to create their own focused research presentations. From the site: "Tramline developed TourMaker with the very specific goal of creating an educational tool that would help to organize and focus Web resources into a simple, useable package." The tours created in TourMaker include navigation tools that are ever present throughout the tour. Students can click a link and then use the navigation tools to return to the tour.

Possible uses:

Classes can utilize the almost three-dozen tours provided as research tools. Once familiar with the software, teachers and students can create their own tours. Students can use this format to present research information, incorporating sites from the Internet, graphics and their own writing. It becomes a multimedia report. Join the discussion list to share ideas with other teachers who are creating tours.
