Tramline
Recommendation:
`Virtual field trips´ has two different meanings. 1) An experience to a certain destination, via the web, to explore and learn all there is to see at that location without actually being there. 2) Tramline´s version of a virtual field trip is a collection of web resources, all related to one topic, bundled together to create a learning experience about that topic, but not connected to a specific place. This site is well organized and easy to follow. The `field trips´ contain graphic buttons to progress through that are easy for students to follow. Tramline offers online and on-site training as well as free online tutorials to support teachers using the software.
Description:
Tramline presents educational experiences by connecting a collection of websites on a specific topic. There are existing field trips available free for use. Each field trip includes an introduction, lesson plans and a list of additional resources. Tramline software is also available so teachers can create their own field trips on topics relevant to their curriculum.
Possible uses:
Find an existing field trip in `the field trips,´ to incorporate into class. Project the field trip and discuss the information and questions presented together or have students work in pairs at a computer. Teachers can purchase the software and create an organized `field trip´ on a topic of their choosing.
