This site was created as a companion site to a NOVA special about bees. The site has many stand-alone components that will enhance a study of bees or insects. Students may find the `Making of the Film´ segment interesting. The techniques to film flying insects and the use of tricks to capture all aspects of their daily lives, will amuse and interest students.

Description:

This NOVA site shares the intimacies of bees with viewers. Learn about the anatomy of a hive and facts about bees, watch seven dances of the bees and interpret bee dances. From the site: "Welcome to the companion Web site to the NOVA program `Tales From the Hive.´ In this NOVA program, our cinematographer literally filmed inside a hive and followed bees in flight to capture close-ups of honeybee behavior."

Possible uses:

Classes studying insects or bees specifically can use this site to find images and learn information about bees. Project the site on a screen to watch and learn about the bee dances. Then have students try on their own to interpret some dances. Students can use the site for research.
