Squeakland is clearly a thoughtful endeavor. The research provided and the guides created to support users demonstrate a commitment to the project beyond just creating a `cool tool.´ While some of the projects demonstrated at the elementary and middle school level seem to be about creating animation, check out the high school examples. These use the tool to create animation closely related to a concept, such as an inclined plane and the digestive system. If Squeak were used across grade levels, younger students could learn the language and then use the tool to demonstrate an understanding of a concept in the next grade levels.

Squeakland offers a free media tool for classes to use and in the process learn programming, math, science and technology skills. Squeak offers a community to accompany the download and lots of supportive research for educators. From the website: "Squeak is a `media authoring tool´ -- software that you can download to your computer and then use to create your own media or share and play with others. It is free and downloadable here. Once you download Squeak you can use the Squeak Tutorials and download the handy Etoys Quickstart Guide. Further information can be found in the Squeak FAQ."

Possible uses:

Teachers need to download and learn the program using the guides and tutorials provided. Then use the program with students to allow them to create animations related to curriculum. Communicate and share with other `Squeakers´ through the site. View examples of creations from the elementary to high school level.
