Spin and Spell
Recommendation:
This spelling game is fun and provides lots of choices of words for students to spell. They are not organized by any phonemic pattern and if a student misspells a word there are no hints provided. It is good practice for a little older student and can be useful if a class has studied some of the vocabulary included.
Description:
Spin and Spell is an interactive spelling game for one or two players. Choose a category and then choose an object to spell. A voice will say the word and the viewer spins the wheel after choosing a letter to spell the word.
Possible uses:
Students can practice their spelling skills independently or challenge a friend with this game. Teachers can use this as a tool for teaching a spelling rule. Show the site on a projector, locate a graphic that follows the spelling rule being taught, then have students try to spell the word. Use incorrect spellings as teachable moments.
