This is a Webquest that causes students to think, compare and contrast history to present day life. Students would presumably have background knowledge of Lewis and Clark´s expedition before conducting this project. Thinking about how life, the environment, the tools and resources have changed allows for interesting comparisons that aren´t just simply `life is easier now.´ Students work in teams, with individual roles. Be careful when setting up the teams to encourage quality cooperation.

Description:

Students embark on a modern day journey over the trail Lewis and Clark traveled. Studying the differences between then and now, students create a presentation showing these comparisons. From the Webquest: "The lesson is intended to develop student's conceptual understanding of the changes that have taken place in America since the time of Lewis and Clark's historical exploration of the West. With the development of their own modern day road trip, students will compare and contrast in words and pictures the landscape of the 21st century with those of the explorers themselves."

Possible uses:

After a class has studied Lewis and Clark´s expedition west, use this Webquest to encourage critical thinking. Students work in teams of three to complete a visual and written presentation of their findings. Teachers can also find useful resources on this site, even if the Webquest is not used.
