Retelling the Classic Tales
Recommendation:
This WebQuest contains an introduction, job descriptions and tasks. It is missing a teacher page, process page, evaluation rubric and a conclusion. These are most often included in a typical WebQuest. Despite the format not fitting a WebQuest, the assignment pages, worksheets and organizational tools for students are all well done. Teachers will need to work through the site before using it and then create their own assessment tool to use. This project is quite involved and will take many class periods. Evaluate your groups so each student´s job plays to their interests and strengths to make this a great experience for everyone.
Description:
Students work together to rewrite a classic fairy tale and turn it into a play, complete with costumes, set, program and stage directions. Students work in groups of four as a director, stage manager, producer or technical director. As a group they rewrite a classic fairy tale including blocking and stage directions. After creating costume plans, set design and programs, students advertise, practice and perform their fairy tale.
Possible uses:
Drama classes can use this site as a guide for playwriting and performance. Students work through the assignments individually and as a group. Carefully organizing each step involved in putting on a play, students have a sense of accomplishment in actually performing their creation. Teachers can alter steps in this process, but the site offers a comprehensive format to work from.
