Reel Timeline
Recommendation:
This site is connected to a NOVA show that aired in 1998. There doesn´t appear to be a rebroadcast scheduled or a show for purchase. However, the site does not necessarily need a video component. The interactive is interesting, but does not really encourage students to think, just to click. The classroom lesson, "Putting it into Perspective," gets kudos from teachers who have used it. Students will be interested in the lessons that can be discerned from this study because it integrates the world into the classroom.
Description:
Reel Timeline shares the innovation behind on-screen images from the 1890s to today and in to the future. Learn about special effects in relation to perception; the techniques used to create them; the experts who create them and the future of special effects. Find a Teacher´s Guide that includes viewing ideas, a classroom activity, ideas from other teachers, related resources and an interactive experience for students.
Possible uses:
Use this site and the experiences to introduce students to a study about perspective, advertising or a study of the nervous system. Study the computer contribution to special effects. Students can use the site for research. Teachers can share components on a projector. Teachers can also encourage students who have an interest in film, special effects or computer animation to visit this site.
