Recommendation:

There are a few gems in this site that teachers can use in the classroom. If a half hour program was of interest to a teacher and taped, there might be related resources on the site to utilize with the segment. The book recommendations could be such a great asset for students looking for books, but the amount and selection of books is small. Look at the activities in the `Adventures´ area to decide if there are any video clips or activities that would support curriculum.

Description:

The PBS show Reading Rainbow shares this companion website. "The series targets 4-8 year olds, and is based on research that identifies these early years as the optimum time for children to learn to read, and to adopt positive reading habits, skills and attitudes." The website offers activities, book reviews with audio and videos from the TV series.

Possible uses:

Teachers can share a video clip with their class and share the related books. Students can use the site as a resource for book recommendations. Find out about a national Young Writers and Illustrators contest and view past winners´ work.
