Primary Spanish
Recommendation:
Within each unit the lessons are similarly structured which provides consistency for new language learners. The sounds the animals make pronouncing the vocabulary is intentional in trying to connect a sound to meaning. But repeating some of the sounds over and over may actually lead to mispronouncing the words in this exaggerated manner. The `Learn More´ section incorporates images and information about people that adds a cultural and personal connection to the content.
Description:
Primary Spanish offers animated interactive experiences to learn basic Spanish phrases and vocabulary. There are five beginning units, ten units to `learn more,´ and a unit on festivals. Animated animals pronouncing the vocabulary, games, practice worksheets, links, slideshows and songs are all used to help students learn introductory Spanish. A section for teachers provides a unit guide, a phrase book, tips and a list of the worksheets for the entire program.
Possible uses:
Teachers can use this site with a projector to share lessons with students. Students can practice repeating the vocabulary as the animated animals introduce them. Discuss ways to remember the words and their sounds. Students can also explore this site on their own, completing the worksheets as they go. Suggest this site to parents to support learning in the classroom. Assign sections as homework.
