It´s a Math World
Recommendation:
This WebQuest combines math and writing in a creative way. The work students must do before beginning their own project seems to be a project all in itself. Carefully examine how much time the whole project will take and adjust as needed. Creating the illustrations for the book might take more time than all the other tasks! The end result, collaborative math picture books, is a project worth sharing with other students in the school or submitting to the school library.
Description:
From the website: "Welcome to It's a Math World! Have you ever wondered why you learn how to multiply and divide in school? Do you feel like you are never going to use these skills outside of school? Well, now is the time for you to explore the Web and see all of the different times when you will use the Math that you learn in school outside of the classroom and in your real life! After you each search different web sites, you will put your imaginations together and create an actual story book about how we use Math everyday. This is designed for you to learn many new things about Math and improve your writing, but don't forget you must also have fun! So get started and have a great time!"
Possible uses:
Share Math Curse with students and then embark on this WebQuest. Students work in small groups to brainstorm, research and then create a Math picture book.
