Magazine Literacy has two opportunities for teachers to embrace , to receive or to give, thereby meeting the needs of a variety of schools across the country. The program is well established and the website is informative and well presented.

Description:

This literacy project supports schools and other programs by sharing the myriad of children“s magazine publications. From the site: "MagazineLiteracy.org helps kids learn to read and to build their self-esteem by mobilizing business and community literacy partnerships that provide wonderful children's magazines to schools, and other reading programs."

Possible uses:

Teachers can use this site to receive and to give. Schools can apply to receive gift subscriptions to magazines to support their reading curriculum. Classes can also support this organization, sponsoring subscriptions, as a community service project. To move from a community service project to a service learning project, classes could take magazines to a center or another school, share them and read with the children and then leave the magazines for them to have.
