The site is easy to use and offers several sorting options. Data can be seen by state or topic and can be compared across states. Information about the breakdowns within in the statistics is included. This adds validity to the site“s information.

Description:

The Annie E. Casey Foundation collects a variety of statistics about children and shares it online at this site. From the site: "By providing policymakers and citizens with benchmarks of child well-being, KIDS COUNT seeks to enrich local, state, and national discussions concerning ways to secure better futures for all children. "This new database, launched in July 2005, contains more than 75 measures of child well-being, including the 10 measures used in our annual KIDS COUNT Data Book. It includes the timeliest data available on Education, Employment and Income, Poverty, Health, Basic Demographics and Youth Risk Factors for the U.S., all 50 states and D.C., depending on availability. Three to five years of trend data is currently available for most indicators. "This easy-to-use, powerful online database allows you to generate custom reports for a geographic area (Profiles) or to compare geographic areas on a topic (Ranking, Maps and Line Graphs.)"

Possible uses:

Administrators making presentations to school boards or parents can use this site to gather data and create visual aids. Parent groups can utilize this data to educate themselves and find direction for improvements for children in the school and community.
