Write Kanji
Recommendation:
The writing activity occurs on a grid, focusing attention to where strokes start and finish. While this activity is fun and educational, it cannot teach the full art of brush painting. But as an introduction and exploratory activity, it is simple and fun. It provides several options for the level of the writing (with computer assistance or not, with a model or not, etc.)
Description:
Write Kanji provides an interactive applet to do simulated brush strokes of 15 Kanji characters. Information about Kanji, stroke order and a brief explanation of how the typographical arrangements of the strokes creates meaning and definitions.
Possible uses:
Students studying Japanese can learn some Kanji from this site and practice computer writing these characters. The program requires distinct angles and start and end points. This will help tune student attention to these details.
