This site says it is, `far from the complete story,´ but the stories it offers, the topics covered and the resources provided are a great start. The information requires lots of reading but teachers can focus on certain aspects of the site to meet their needs. The images and stories that accompany the immigration accounts are interesting. The site clearly needs more stories from immigrants - a project for a class!

Description:

This site on immigration provides an introduction, timeline, information on immigrants from 11 countries, historical photographic images, interactive vocabulary activities, resource links, interviews with immigrants, a potluck recipe book and a conclusion that offers an opportunity for reflection. From the website: "The feature provides an introduction to the study of immigration to the United States. It is far from the complete story, and focuses only on the immigrant groups that arrived in greatest numbers during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The presentation was shaped by the primary sources available in the Library's online collections and a series of questions."

Possible uses:

There are many components of this site and therefore can be used in many ways. Students conducting research on immigration can use this as one of their resources. Teachers can use this site to find stories, images, activities, thought provoking questions and general information related to an immigration unit of study. Teachers and families can find recipes from around the world and students can submit recipes of their own. In the main page for interviews, click on resources to find lesson plans and additional activities on other web sites.
