Recommendation:
This project provides training for teachers in a variety of ways to make it work out. The student interest in the project seems high and their work matters to a larger group and thus feels highly valued and interesting. The presentation of the project and necessary components is easy to read and use. Lab and data sheets and field guides are provided and include good graphic images when appropriate. Students will learn from each other and scientists at the same time.
Description:
From the site: "GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based education and science program." GLOBE students make environmental observations at or near their schools and report their data through the Internet. The focus is on atmosphere, hydrology, land cover, soil and the Earth as a system. Scientists and other students use GLOBE data in their research and provide feedback to the students to enrich their science education. Global images based on GLOBE student data are displayed on the World Wide Web, enabling students and other visitors to visualize the student environmental observations.
Possible uses:
Teachers can learn about GLOBE through a workshop or a GLOBE partner. Participate in the program fully or utilize the resources on the site. Videos related to the five main topics are well done and interesting. Information gathering sheets are provided.
