Recommendation:

The idea of more actively involving learners in their language learning is good. Some of the activities relate to pop culture - such as Harry Potter or Raiders of the Lost Ark. If students can not relate to the stories, some of the activities lose their appeal. The content of some of the grammar exercises is not entirely for students (i.e. fill in the blanks about how a keg is a heavy item to carry.) With careful screening, teachers can find quality components to use in their classrooms. The site carries ads by Google on the sides.

ESL go provides resources for teachers to utilize in the classroom and tools for students. The site is organized into three levels of study (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and use categories (business, technology, travel, etc.) Online classes, discussion boards, quizzes and a store make up the student section. From the website: "ESL go is different from other ESL websites because it puts communication as its front focus. Students need to express their ideas and feelings while learning a new language and not just study the grammatical rules. "ESL go is a free English community of ESL students and ESL teachers. We help ESL students learning English as a second language through free ESL classes and free English practice message boards. ESL go.com also provides free teaching ESL activities for TESOL, TESL and TEFL."

Students can utilize this site for learning and practice. Teachers can find activities to use with a class or for individual students needing additional practice with a skill. Older students can work through a free online class to improve their English.
