Currently only teachers in these areas can submit proposals: Chicago, Gulf Coast, Los Angeles, New York City, North Carolina, the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties), and South Carolina. The company continues to grow and hopes to make its services available to all communities.

Donors Choose connects resources with public schools in need. From the website: "Donors Choose is a simple way to provide students in need with resources that our public schools often lack. At this not-for-profit web site, teachers submit project proposals for materials or experiences their students need to learn. These ideas become classroom reality when concerned individuals, whom we call Citizen Philanthropists, choose projects to fund. "Proposals range from `Magical Math Centers´ ($200) to `Big Book Bonanza´ ($320), to `Cooking Across the Curriculum´ ($1,100). Any individual can search such proposals by areas of interest, learn about classroom needs, and choose to fund the project(s) they find most compelling. In completing a project, donors receive a feedback package of student photos and thank-you notes, a teacher impact letter, and an expenditure report showing that their tax-deductible gift was spent as directed."

Possible uses:

Teachers can submit a proposal for supplies or experiences for students. Teachers can share this site with families as a gift idea, in honor of a teacher or school. Classes could do fundraising and donate their profits to a cause they choose. This would make a good service learning project, especially if the amount donated is $100 or more because then there is a lot of communication and photos from the school that receives the money.
