Destination Modern Art
Recommendation:
This site has a good balance between the artwork and the cartoon animation. There is audio to accompany the `tour´ so young students do not need to be able to read to extract lots of value from the site.
Description:
Take an animated tour of the MoMA! From the website: "Destination: Modern Art is a Web site for children ages 5 to 8. An interactive online gallery offers an introduction to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and its affiliate, P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center. This site gives children the opportunity: to learn about works in MoMA´s permanent collection and site-specific works at P.S.1; to look carefully at works of art to learn about artists, their techniques, and inspirations; to engage in online and at-home activities."
Possible uses:
Classes can learn about several artists, about the MoMA, about artist technique and try some related projects. Teachers can project this site and take a tour as a class and discuss the art and artists. Or teachers may find projects to use when studying one of the artists featured on the site. Compare the art in the MoMA to the art at P.S. 1. Discuss the differences in the presentation and how that affects the perception about the artwork.
