Dallas Symphony Orchestra Kids
Recommendation:
Several symphonies have similar websites, each is a little different. This site does a little more with musical history - placing composers on a timeline and listening to period music. The information is extensive enough to qualify as more than just an introduction to a period or composer. The graphics are good - clear, simple and all tied together around musical themes.
Description:
Find a variety of activities related to a symphony, musicians, instruments and more. From the website: "DSOKids is the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's magical doorway to a world of musical fun and learning for students, parents and teachers. The site's mission is to provide attractive, accessible and child-friendly resources that introduce symphonic music, the orchestra and its instruments and to encourage both adults and young people to explore the world of the symphony orchestra."
Possible uses:
Find music to share with students on this site. Use the site to help students learn about instruments, hear the instruments, learn about composers and play time period games with the information. Students can explore the site on their own or assign `Beethoven´s Baseball´ to quiz students on the readings related to composers and have students report their score.
