The site has interesting graphics that do not overwhelm the viewer. Students can click on the images to gather information about the image. The site balances three different components of a study of space: information and history, space exploration and navigation with an astrocompass. The expedition to the North Magnetic Pole was completed by scientists in 2000. The mission highlights, profiles and activities are all still available online for use with students.
Description:
From the planetarium at the Children´s Museum of Indianapolis comes Cosmic Quest. Cosmic Quest offers three areas for learning: Field Guide to the Universe, Living in Space and Expedition to the North Magnetic Pole. The field guide provides information and many links to information about the solar system, astronomers and spacecraft. The Living in Space Expedition is an interactive experience where viewers pack a spacecraft for take off, expand the craft for work and deal with an emergency. A teacher´s guide is provided that contains details and printable worksheets.
Possible uses:
Teachers can use any component as an aid in teaching. Students can use the field guide for research and report writing on astronomers, the planets or space crafts. Students can embark on the expedition in pairs to develop a basic understanding of spacecraft needs.
