There is a wide range of topics covered in the projects of this site. The resource is primarily text and images, though there is some video. The reading level is high, so teachers need to decide what is worth reading so students can gather the most from the material. The tools are awesome for research. This site really supports the ongoing learning of social studies teachers.

Description:

The Center for History and New Media shares tools, projects and resources through this site. From the site: "Since 1994, the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University has used digital media and computer technology to democratize history,to incorporate multiple voices, reach diverse audiences and encourage popular participation in presenting and preserving the past. "CHNM has developed a number of online databases and other resources for historians and history teachers, including a listing of 1,200 history departments worldwide; a practical guide to Doing Digital History; a collection of essays on history and new media; and a popular set of free digital tools for historians and teachers, including Web Scrapbook, Survey Builder, Scribe, Poll Builder and Syllabus Finder."

Possible uses:

Teachers can use this site to gather information to share with students during a unit of study. Images and documents can be shared on a projector. Teachers and students can use the tools to help research. Teachers can use the Syllabus Finder to learn what materials and topics others around the country teach. Use the timeline builder or the search engines. Collaborate with other teachers around the country.
