Recommendation:

The characters are both boys and girls interested in Science. The links were researched by the author and include suggestions about how to effectively use them. There are small plugs for books the website author and the illustrator have created. It doesn´t feel like true advertising, but it´s there. Additionally, the book, The Dark Zone, is about the characters on the site and could be a nice companion book to have in the classroom.

There are four members of the Black Hole Gang. Each has varied scientific interests. Click on a person and discover their scientific interests and learn more from linked sites. "Explore the site to learn about the science adventures of Matt, Wei Ling, Rosa, A.J. and Newton. Find the hidden links about Einstein, bats, rainforests and other cool science topics."

Possible uses:

On the teacher page, connect to a listing of all the links for each member of the Black Hole Gang. Click on a link and find a brief description of the site as well as ways to use the site in the classroom. Exploring this site can lead to discussion of the branches of science. After searching the site, students can pick an area they are interested in knowing more about to direct an independent science inquiry project.
