The exhibits vary in their multimedia presentation. Some are text and images to read through. Others contain animated Flash presentations. Overall the exhibits are text heavy, but they make excellent additions to a unit.
Description:
This is a Smithsonian site that explores the history, culture and environment of the Arctic. From the site: "The Arctic Studies Center specifically studies northern peoples, exploring history, archaeology, social change and human life ways across the circumpolar world. We are part of the Department of Anthropology, in the National Museum of Natural History, a section of the Smithsonian Institution. Having pursued northern studies since the 1850s, the Smithsonian possesses one of the world's finest anthropological collections from arctic and sub-arctic regions."
Possible uses:
Share the images, exhibits, slideshows and presentations with students during a course of study. Use components of the site to enhance particular lessons on topics ranging from the Vikings to Arctic wildlife. Students can work in pairs and research, helping each other with the reading.
