National Museum of the American Indian
Recommendation:
This museum website shares many incredible exhibits. Each one varies in its technological production. Some are films and others are slideshows or image galleries. The museum covers all native peoples of the country, which easily lends itself to a compare/contrast study.
Description:
The NMAI website is a multimedia collection of current and past exhibits. From the site: "It is the first national museum dedicated to the preservation, study, and exhibition of the life, languages, literature, history, and arts of Native Americans. Established by an act of Congress in 1989, the museum works in collaboration with the Native peoples of the Western Hemisphere to protect and foster their cultures by reaffirming traditions and beliefs, encouraging contemporary artistic expression, and empowering the Indian voice."
Possible uses:
Find resources, images, film and information to share with students during a study of a particular Native American tribe. Students can also use the site for research, focusing on the native people of a certain area of the country. Teachers can find professional development opportunities, though these are at the museum, not online.
