This site provides amazing images of artifacts. Each topic is explored thoroughly with many subtopics. The site is shares a lot of artwork and information about several artists. The introduction indicates there are African Voices to listen to. These come in text, not an audio format.

This Smithsonian site shares multimedia information about Africa´s history and people. Organized into three areas: `Themes,´ `Focus Gallery,´ `History,´ the website provides rich resources for learning with images of artifacts, interactive experiences, timelines, audio and related links. From the website: "Africa´s history and peoples have profoundly influenced global culture and thought - and continue to do so today. America´s own past and present are strongly linked to Africa. In this web site explore objects that attest to Africa´s striking diversity and long history. Listen as Africans talk about their lives and cultures. Discover your connections to Africa."

Possible uses:

Use this site to enhance a study of Africa. Share all pieces with students or some. Send students on a search for specific information on the site. Project the images of artifacts from the gallery to view and discuss. Learn how to make an African mudcloth and try this project in the classroom.
