This site is current and active in the growing field of media literacy. It is easy to find information and the site offers links to many other quality media literacy sites. There are four states that have ACME chapters, otherwise membership is for individuals or organizations. It is not clear from the site what the benefits of membership include beyond to "gain the skills and knowledge to access, analyze, evaluate and produce media in a wide variety of forms."

Description:

ACME provides information, tools, workshops, a blog and a researchable database related to media literacy. From the website: "ACME's unique approach to media education involves teaching people of all ages how to more effectively access, analyze, evaluate and produce media. ACME's success involves teaching media skills, knowledge and activism in an engaging way! Here are some of ACME's ongoing projects you can tap into: workshops, tool kits, study guides and contests! ACME´s solutions are: "Developing, distributing, reviewing and promoting media-literacy curricula and educational initiatives that  (a) encourage critical thinking and free expression, (b) examine our consolidated media system, and (c)  inspire active civic participation in society; Advocating and promoting independent media-making (video, digital, print, radio, `zine, blog, etc.) as a critical part of the educational process and an essential component of a democratic society; and Supporting and linking media education with civic engagement at the local and national levels, encouraging individuals to move away from cynicism and apathy, and toward civic activism and engagement."

Possible uses:

Teachers can utilize ACME for their own research to develop media literacy units and keep informed about current topics and issues in the media literacy field. There are some activities for older students on the site that can be used with a class and some curricular ideas. Schools can find information for media literacy workshops.
