This site is factual and realistic. There aren´t animated animals dancing about. It is meant to share real experiences from farms. The Quicktime movies are great and provide different types of images from a tour of a farm to watching a chick hatch. The site is well organized and easy to navigate, even for younger students.

Description:

4H Virtual Farm incorporates many technology components to provide a comprehensive picture of agricultural life in Virginia. Take a virtual reality visit to several different types of farms. Learn about the science used in farming, the language farmers use and the details involved in farming. Discover how food gets from the farm to your table and take quizzes along the way. The farms featured include a horse, dairy, poultry, wheat and fish farm.

Possible uses:

Classes can pick a particular farm to study and view the materials on the site. Or compare the different farms. Students in earlier grades may incubate eggs. This site offers information and video for students to learn about the growth process of a chick before such an experience. Older students can use this site as a resource when discussing ethical issues related to animal farming. Connect to other 4H resources through this page.
