Graphic organizers are provided to aid students in the research and presentation process. Several rubrics are provided for the various steps of the project. The WebQuest encourages a hands-on component where students actually test out their research, which validates their hard work.

Description:

Students work as a plant biologist, an architect or a plantkeeper to research about plants, their environment and how to grow them. They prepare a written report and an oral presentation that includes a PowerPoint component. Then students conduct experiments to test their hypothesis. From the website: "This WebQuest will enable students to study the characteristics of plants, the environment the plants need to survive and maintaining the health of the plants. Through this process, the students will learn how to research using the Internet. They will also learn how to communicate through presentations using PowerPoint."

Possible uses:

Teachers can use this WebQuest for the start of a plant study or the final component of a botanical unit. Students work independently and cooperatively to complete the tasks and plan a presentation.
