The interactive maps provide a sense of place for the images and movies. Color coded buttons on the map make the site easy to use. Since the site contains several locations and many things to view, searching the site beforehand to focus student attention is worthwhile. Also be aware the interactive maps take time to load. The site connects archeology, astronomy and history of a culture in a provocative manner.

Description:

From the website: "Our shared interest in better understanding the mysteries of the Sun, forms a common bond between those who built the great structures of Chaco Canyon and the Yucatan, and people today. We invite you to explore this site, to learn about the ancestral Native Americans in New Mexico and the ancient Maya in the Yucatan, while gaining a better understanding of the active Sun and its importance to them and to us. "Traditions of the Sun: Chaco Culture National Historical Park and The Yucatan are interactive applications which allow visitors to explore both the park in Chaco Canyon and the Mayan archaeological sites of the Northern Yucatan by navigating satellite and aerial images. The sites contain hundreds of photographs, panoramic images, time-lapse videos and other multimedia components. This project is a collaboration between NASA's Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum, the National Park Service at Chaco Canyon, INAH and UNAM in Mexico and Ideum, a multimedia design firm located in Sausalito, CA."
