Math TV
Recommendation:
This site is growing, with a problem a week being entered during the 2005 school year. The problem is presented and then an audio 'teacher' explains the solution using a virtual white board on the screen. The explanations are clear and the problem for students to try on their own utilizes the lesson just given. Students will greatly benefit from entering their own problems to Math TV, too.
Description:
From the website: "Math TV is an innovative learning project for middle school students. Each week Infinity Quick (IQ), the host of Math TV, introduces a new math problem. Students follow along as IQ works through the solution and then it's their turn. Each step-by-step solution is followed by an interactive word problem similar to the one in the video. Students may view the video as often as needed. The practice area comes equipped with an online calculator and notepad for testing ideas or making a drawing."
Possible uses:
Classes can participate weekly in the challenge problems presented. Students can create problems to submit to appear on Math TV. This site can be used for enrichment learning for mathematically gifted students. Teachers can find story problems to use here and search the archives which are organized by topics.
