This site offers interactive experiences to learn about a variety of musical elements. Each includes a brief but thorough explanation and opportunities to work with the ideas through activities. The animated graphics are fun without overriding the content of the site.

Description:

Find out about performances by the San Francisco Symphony and find lots of information about a symphony. Through interactive experiences, learn about instruments, compose music and play with elements of music such as tempo, rhythm, pitch, harmony and instrumentation, among others.

Possible uses:

Music teachers can utilize the 'Music Lab' to teach students, in a logical progression, about some elements of music. Students can learn one element a class period or move more quickly or independently through the topics. When discussing instruments, use this site to hear and see all the instruments in an orchestra. A 360 degree view of each instrument accompanies information and sound clips of the instrument.
