Net Grammar
Recommendation:
This site is easy to use and well organized. There are multiple ways to get around the site and find what the different levels contain. In the 'Introduction Menu' look at the 'Topics and Language Functions' to find a well designed grid that shares the topics and skills covered by each unit. The 'task' section should be titled 'tests' because that is the area where students can self test their knowledge. The reading section of each unit includes pre-reading skills. Some of the components are set up for partners and discussions which might interfere with an independent study.
Description:
NetGrammar offers English grammar activities. From the website: "The instructional units are the heart of NetGrammar. There are fifteen units. These units are designed to both engage and inform students. Each unit is independent and each includes five components: Preview, Grammar Focus, Listening, Reading, Writing and Review. "The major goal in the development of NetGrammar is to provide a web site that serves not only as a vehicle for instruction but also as a resource for self-study or classroom instruction support."
Possible uses:
Teachers will find units for students studying English grammar. Any component of the site can be used independently of others. Classes can use the site to review or test on grammar. Students can use certain lessons for extra practice or reiteration of challenging skills. Students with some reading skills can work through this site independently, completing all 15 units.
