Biointeractive provides quality, current information on a wide variety of biological topics. Student learning is enhanced by learning what scientists are currently researching and discussing. The information presented is geared towards high school students but can be modified for middle school. The animations, video clips, 'click and learn' activities and lectures contain clear and vivid images. Quizzes, additional resources and notes are all available for each virtual lab.

Description:

BioInteractive is a collection of biology-focused teaching materials created by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. The site provides animations, video clips, virtual labs, a virtual museum, lectures, an 'ask the scientist' component and interactive learning activities. The on demand lectures provide teaching from HHMI scientists. From the website: "The lectures give students and teachers the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research from some of the world's leading scientists. Intended to inspire young students to pursue careers in science, the lectures bring the latest developments in a rapidly moving field of research into the classroom."

Possible uses:

Teachers can find information, video clips, animations and interactive labs on a variety of biological topics to incorporate into curriculum. Relevant lectures can be viewed. Students can research utilizing this site and ask questions of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute scientists. Free resources are available to teachers though www.catalog.hhmi.org.
