Schubert Quest
Recommendation:
This project is clearly meant for students with composing knowledge and capabilities. It is written with a bit of humor and encourages creativity within specified guidelines. Carefully explore the links before beginning with a class. Some links require registration and 'signing in.' You may want to establish a username and password for all students to use to protect their privacy and names from the Internet.
Description:
Through this WebQuest, music students research Schubert, create a composition with one of his unfinished pieces as the start and share it via a Cybertaid posting. From the website: "You are a normal teenager. Everything in your life is going well - until one day, there is someone else in your head, someone else is sharing your body. And, suddenly, you realize that you have become an incredible musician. And, you have the urge to compose - but every time you go to sign your name on your latest piece, you sign F. Schubert. You attempt to ignore this new talent - you attempt to leave it alone but it is only getting stronger. And the man inside of you is getting stronger as well. The restless spirit of Franz Schubert decided to inhabit your body. He left before he could attend to all he had wanted and now he is back to fix that. You have been possessed by Schubert and all he wants to do is finish his incomplete music!"
Possible uses:
Teachers can introduce the WebQuest to students and then assist as they research, discover and create. Students work individually, which seems appropriate to the creative process in this assignment. Teachers and students can also use the links on this WebQuest to research Shubert, separate from the project.
