Cats are a theme here, but not over done. The activities move well beyond the feel of an online worksheet. Students will enjoy the colorful graphics and fun atmosphere this site provides. The variety of math topics covered encourage thinking beyond algorithms. The site map is a useful tool for teachers to see which content areas activities cover.

Description:

Math Cats offers a variety of online and off line activities, manipulatives, puzzles and crafts to promote mathematical exploration and thinking. A Microworlds section provides interactive games that promote mathematical thinking.

Possible uses:

Teachers will find many activities to use with students here to practice and explore math concepts. Students may be inspired to create their own math microworlds project after interacting with some of the games provided here. Older students can learn the Microworlds technology to create games for younger students. A click on 'older cats' provides a teacher idea bank where lessons and activities about math topics are shared by teachers.
